A slow moving tornado struck Clyde Texas killing 13 residents in a town of 700. Dozens were injured and many were reported missing as volunteers and Red Cross aided the survivors. The storm damaged or destroyed dozens of homes and isolated Clyde for hours.

Baltimore on June 11 a well dressed man entered the city welfare office. He sat briefly then seized the petty cash box containing about 50 dollars and ran. Elizabeth Bevan, in charge, reported the theft.
Steven Yeatres and John Semples sue Stewart Bell Sr in Winchester Corporation Court for 25000 alleging breach of a fire damaged lease. They claim Bell leased to Peoples Drug Co for more rent after promising to protect their business. a second suit against Peoples Drug Co is planned. Bell unavailable for comment.
President Roosevelt invited Senator Gillette of Iowa to a White House luncheon for Sunday. Gillette won Iowa's Democratic Senate primary over Otha Wearin amid Wearin's claim of White House support. Roosevelt plans to meet Gillette on return to Washington.
A joint Congressional committee approved a compromise wage hour bill allowing flexible pay above 30 cents an hour. The plan sets a 25 cent bedrock wage the first year, rising to 30, then 40 with seven years to reach the top. Southern lawmakers won broader exemptions and industry based minima, with a 44 hour first year and rising hours limits.
Miss Mary Otto Schultz 70, of Winchester and Brazil Indiana, died at Memorial Hospital after illness. She had angina pectoris symptoms and had lived with Mrs J William Riley on West Piccadilly. A traveler in recent years, she was a member of the Schultz family with Indiana roots and Dutch history. Her body will be cremated in Indiana.
In Baltimore on June 11 a society wedding was interrupted by an auto crash injuring Augusta Poe and a bridesmaid. Poe, a 1938 Preakness ball queen, and two taxi drivers were treated and sent home after shock and bruises. Other wedding party members, including ushers and guests, avoided injury.
The Japanese navy warns of blasting its way up the Yangtze to seize China’s provisional capital. Foreign shipping is ordered to evacuate a 200 mile zone from Whuh to Kiukiang as 40 gunboats advance upriver. Chiang Kai-Shek orders mass conscription to equalize burden across wealth and poor.

Cincinnati (PF) June 11 Phillip Meagher aged 18 died today after being knocked out in the third round of a boxing bout. Coroner Frank M. Coppock reported the prelim bout victim suffered a fractured skull during the fight.

British pressure to publish settlement proposals and high-level talks with Hodza and Benes framed a tense security and foreign relations backdrop. Berlin papers assailed Czechoslovakia over Sudeten rights, invoking Anschluss era rhetoric and Hilger's pledge to protect Germans on the border.
The body of Elder D. Singer, 60, was found along Western Maryland Railway tracks near Henry Maryland. He was seen aboard a freight train last night at Junction and is believed to have fallen from the train. Singer had impersonated Santa Claus at a local chain store for two Christmas periods and was en route to St George West Virginia to his widow.
