Federal farm officials estimate total farmer debt at 8.255 billion dollars with about 7 billion tied to farm real estate mortgages and 1.255 billion in short term obligations. Short term debt rose about 28 percent in the last half of 1938 due to Commodity Credit Corporation loans on cotton wheat corn and other commodities.
In Sequim Washington 82 school children and one teacher sickened by typhoid after buttered buns eaten in a local lunchroom. Immunization of about 1 000 residents underway as Red Cross and state officials fight the outbreak. U S Circuit Court of Appeals ruled to uphold rights of stateless aliens in a case over Mein Kampf. The decision sent the suit back to district court to enjoin unauthorized publication. The ruling addressed whether Hitler, deemed stateless, could own copyright and criticized stripping refugees of property protections.

They and their families, including four sons and three children, enjoyed the royal welcome from King George and Queen Elizabeth with 1500 guests.
