Accident Injures David Baker on Route 11 near Kernstown
David Baker 76 of Stephens City was injured when his wagon was struck from the rear by Lorraine Bowman of Stephens City on Route 11 near Kernstown. Baker suffered chest injuries and cuts, was treated at a Winchester hospital, and was reported not to be in serious condition. The horse was euthanized after an army veterinarian’s diagnosis. The Bowman car, a 1941 Chevrolet, sustained about $225 damage. Deputy De Haven continued the investigation with no charges at the time.

Tokyo radio reports Allied forces landed on Labuan Island off Borneo in the second invasion within 40 days.
