Mrs Franklin D Roosevelt arrives Newark after California trip stopping in Pittsburgh en route from Columbus. Record heat and drowning deaths sweep the eastern half of the country with Chicago at 97 degrees the hottest June reading. Ohio Michigan Indiana Kentucky Wisconsin and Baltimore report multiple fatalities from the heat and related drownings as residents seek relief near streams and beaches.
In a east side flat a 33 year old laborer Raymond Irizarry fought with his wife over money. He stabbed his mother in law Julia Vizarrondo, his sister in law Cecelia 25, and his wife Ricardo. The assailant then stabbed himself as police closed in. All victims died or were mortally wounded. Irizarry was badly wounded and not expected to live.

The Northern Virginia Dental Study Club adjourned for summer after a June meeting at Dr. C. S. Grove's Strasburg office. President Dr. Grove presided as Dr. G. G. Crawford led a discussion on medical and dental infection topics. The next gathering is set for October at the George Washington Hotel in Winchester with the annual banquet and officer election.

City Treasurer W. A. Baker announces changes to the 1933 tax payment plan. The state and city taxes are due in fall with penalties starting December 6, 1933, at 5 percent plus 3 percent interest, and 1 percent added monthly after February 1, 1934 until paid or property is sold for non payment. A 2 percent discount is offered for payments on or before October 1, 1933, and a 1 percent discount for payments on or before November 1, 1933.
