The parsonage of John Mann Methodist Episcopal Church at 313 South Kent Street caught fire around 10 am as pastor Joseph Wheeler attempted to light a kitchen stove. Winds spread sparks up the chimney. the fire department and Friendship Company fought the flames with chemicals and salt. No major damage beyond smoke.
Winchester Lodge of Elks will attend Flag Day services hosted by Harrisonburg Lodge in New Market on June 14. The itinerary includes a 2 PM baseball game, a banquet, and evening services. Members travel by car, leaving Winchester at 11 AM, with advance notice required to arrange transportation and lodging.
The Friendship Fire Company No. 1 summons all members to a meeting Monday June 11 to discuss a new uniform. G R Haines is the secretary and urges attendance.
Mr J M Morrow of Alexandria Virginia organizer of the Loyal Order of Moose returns to Winchester after a business trip to his hometown. He will stay until the Moose order installation and has built a local Moose lodge now over 200 members.

Robert Presley Glass a prominent Frederick county farmer and fruit grower died suddenly at his Long Meadows home on the Opequon Creek after a two hour illness from angina pectoris. The funeral will be Sunday at 3 PM at his residence with Rev. Robt B Nelson and Rev. T H Daffin officiating.
New York June 9 Elsie Ferguson the stage and screen actress and Col Thomas B Clark Jr vice president of Harriman National Bank have separated. Clark confirmed the separation but would not discuss the differences. The couple married in 1916 and have three children.
Eluigo Lozado, a Filipino butler for Dr. B W McAuliffe, admits he killed his fiancée Miss Blossom Steley Martin, a nurse at the doctor’s home. He led police to a Staten Island ferry dumping attempt, saying poverty ended their engagement. Miss Martin’s body bore marks on the throat and nothing else.
A passenger train feared to carry many prominent Pueblo Mexico citizens was wrecked between Jalapa and Amazoc in Vera Cruz state. Express cars were looted and the crew executed by brigands, according to special dispatches received in San Antonio.
