Stephens City Council adopted a 13130 budget for the coming year and announced a public hearing for June 23 at 7 30 p m. The levy remains 60 cents per 100 for real estate and 90 cents for personal property. Net changes include an 700 increase in general property taxes and 50 from auto tags plus 276 in water charges. Improvements to Academy Hill and boundary surveying receive rises, while fines revenue drops and efforts to rely less on revenue from fines continue.
The dedication ceremony for the James River Bridge on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia honors U.S. Senator Harry F. Byrd. It will be held at Peaks of Otter Visitor Center on Saturday at 11 o'clock with ribbon cutting at 1 p.m. at the bridge on the Parkway over the James River.

A Bomarc missile at McGuire Air Force Base caught fire damaging its concrete launching pen and causing a minor radioactive release.
