Clarke County jailor Robert Buckner was savagely beaten by two prisoners Paul Elliott and Earl Johnson during a night raid. Buckner’s son Robert, 23, intervened to subdue Elliott while Johnson fled through an open door. Buckner sustained multiple head wounds and was treated by Dr. A. P. Osborne. authorities sought Johnson with no immediate arrest.

Fatal .22 Rifle Death of Fremont Dick at Gulf Refining Plant
Fremont Dick, 30, died from a self inflicted rifle shot at the Gulf Refining Company plant near Winchester on Martinsburg pike. Coroner Dr. James A. Miller said the death appears self inflicted.
