A house measure carries a senate bonus bill with an estimated cost of 3 845 659 481 dollars over 43 years starting January 1 1923. The figure reflects long term federal obligations linking veterans benefits to a defined payout period.
Treasury experts estimate the soldiers bonus would total 3.85 billion dollars over 43 years with about 75 percent of veterans taking cash and 25 percent choosing other options. Senator McCumber said further moves to seat the bill will be pursued to fit the Senate calendar.
The Clarke county branch of the Order of Kime's Daughters and Sons will hold its annual convention at 1.30 pm Saturday in Berryville Baptist Church. Clarke county chapters at Berryville Millwood Boyce Wickliffe and Minnie Wood Chapel report flourishing activity. The program includes routine business and addresses by Mrs. Henry S Iely state president and Mrs. Edna Fox head of social hygiene work.

The many friends of Mr. J. W. Jackson veteran employee of the Win Chester Steam Laundry regret to learn he is very ill at his East Water street home. His daughter Mrs. Grace McKnight of Murfreesboro Tennessee has arrived to be with him during his illness. Many friends wish him a speedy recovery.
British troops occupied Belleek after advancing to seize the salient from Irish irregulars. The fort was taken first and the town fell to the military with no loss of life and no prisoners. Reports from Londonderry and Glasgow describe further clashes and refugees streaming into Glasgow. A farmer and his nephew were shot at their home in County Antrim.

Alfred W. Wright, a prominent farmer and fruit grower in the county, departed yesterday for Catawba Sanitarium to spend several weeks there for health reasons following a severe illness last spring.

Eldridge Luttrell, co owner of Star Cafe on East Water street, was severely burned when a skillet of hot lard tipped and ran down his arm from elbow to fingers. He endured intense pain until a doctor attended him. The skin burned off in several places. condition described as less painful the next day. Luttrell is a former service member who served overseas as a corporal in Company One Hundred Sixteenth Infantry.
Baltimore actor and evangelist Robert Downing, with relatives in Stephens City, spent several days in town, while local advertisements urge customers to compare tire prices and visit Chapman Auto Sales.
United States Senator James A. Reed appeared in Caruthersville Missouri today after canceling a speech last night due to sudden illness. He said his condition would not stop his plan to campaign for renomination as scheduled.

Memphis Tenn June 8 Bishop John C Kilgo of the Methodist Episcopal Church South is critically ill in a hospital. He will be taken to his Charlotte North Carolina home tonight unless condition worsens. He rallied last night passed a restful night and was somewhat better today according to attending physicians.

Harry Myers Pauline Starke and Rosemary Theby lead an all star cast in a richly photographed production directed by William Fox. Rotary Club members and wives will attend the evening showing.
Miss Anna Elizabeth Pingley is ill with an attack of appendicitis at her home, 601 South Market Street, and is under a physician's care. It is probable she will be taken to Memorial Hospital for an operation.
Mrs. C. L. Robinson travels for several weeks to stay with her brother and sister-in-law Mr and Mrs Walter Barnes in Charleston West Virginia. Barnes serves on the West Virginia State Board of Public Works and was a state fuel administrator during World War I.

Misses Pauline and Georgie Shoop daughters of Mrs Blanche Shoop return from the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore where they studied violin and piano for a year. They plan to complete a three-year course and are regarded as among Winchester's most talented young musicians. Both reportedly made high averages in recent exams and performed in class recitals including Pauline with the senior orchestra.
