The Rev. Dr. Franklin C. Fry, longtime head of the Lutheran Church in America, died in New Rochelle Hospital at 67 after battling cancer. He resigned as president a week earlier. a pivotal figure since 1944, he helped unite Lutherans and promoted ecumenism. Funeral plans pending.
