Police described a riot with rocks bottles and gasoline filled bottles, injuring several and leading to arrests of Charles Poole 16 Robert Hairston 16 Sonny Calhoun 17 Larry Winston 16 William Johnson 18 Joe Poole 19 Roosevelt Smith 23 all Lexington residents. James Comer 23 was charged with striking a Black person. The disturbance followed attempts by Black residents to gain service at segregated facilities and drew in authorities from nearby counties.
