Timothy Seed Profit Question Favoring Seed Over Hay Opinion
A farmer asks the USDA whether timothy seed or timothy hay yields greater profit. Dr. J. Adrian Pieters of the Forage Crops Division says timothy seed likely offers a higher cash value with a spring shortage of about 33 million pounds and insufficient domestic seed supply. He notes imported seed is less suited to local conditions, and harvesting seed leaves valuable straw feed.
