President Johnson hailed May unemployment at 5.1 percent with a record 71.1 million employed as proof the tax cut boosts the economy and creates jobs. He warned youths may lift the jobless rate this month but urged passage of anti poverty legislation for training and opportunities.
Jean Wills Jamerson of 130 King St Strasburg faces a felony murder charge after a crash at Loudoun and Whitlock streets killed 35 year old Georgine Magruder of White Post. Jamerson, freed on $1000 bond, is due in Municipal Court June 18. The Magruder husband, John H Magruder, was injured but released from the hospital.
Negotiators in Gov. Romney's office reached a settlement to end a 99 day strike at Essex Wire Corp in Hillsdale. The deal followed a fourth all night session after a state of emergency and National Guard deployment to restore order.
