Virginia peach crop headed higher while apple output drops
Virginia Tech fruit specialist A H Teske says the 1950 peach crop may reach about 750000 bushels and rank among the best in size and quality, aided by improved conditions after freezes. The state's apple crop will be bigger than 1949 but well short of earlier forecasts, with declines across major varieties due to late frosts and rain. Actively managed pest and disease control has reduced risks as the critical period approaches.
