The Labor Department reports the jobless rate dropping from 7.5 to 7.3 percent in May and wholesale prices rising only 0.3 percent after April’s 0.8 percent surge, ending a two month stagnation in unemployment.
In Norfolk the GOP mulls a tense convention fight between Ford and Reagan supporters as delegates split 18 for Reagan 5 for Ford and seven uncommitted. At-large delegates totaling 21 are picked by the state convention opening in Norfolk with eight allotted to officials.
Sen. Hubert H. Humphrey said he will reassess his campaign stance after the upcoming Tuesday primaries in Ohio, California, and New Jersey if Jimmy Carter fails to secure 1,200 to 1,300 pledged delegates.
