Execution Delayed Then Woman Executed in San Quentin

Barbara Graham faced execution after two court stays delaying it for 90 minutes. She, 32, was calm as she died in San Quentin’s gas chamber, the third woman executed in California. Accomplices Jack Santo and Emmett Perkins, both on death row for the torture slaying of Mabel Monahan in 1953, followed her in death three hours later. The trio sought $100,000 and false leads, but no money was found. Gov Knight ordered a stay before the 10 a.m. scheduled act, then the court rejected the appeal and the stay was lifted.
