The Red Cross bloodmobile arrives in Winchester for a one day stand at the Presbyterian church on Loudoun Street as the community begins the second year of participation in the peace time blood program. Last year the city made eight trips and collected 823 pints from 621 donors. Contributions included 33 giving three times, 109 twice, and 470 once, with 353 donations from repeat donors. From June 11, 1948 to May 31, 1949, 1099 pints were used at Winchester hospital, with the community receiving 276 pints more from the Washington center than it contributed. If paid at regular rates, the blood would be worth over 27 500 dollars. Local Red Cross officials and Dr. George Murphy praised the program for providing ready access to all blood types, aiding especially rarer types.
