Young Air Pilots Sent To Pacific

Scores of fledgling air corps pilots are being sent to Hawaii and the Philippines. Some 116 second lieutenants who recently won their wings are ordered to embark for Pacific outposts in the next three weeks. The pilots come from Brooks and Kelly fields in Texas and the Stockton advance school.

Winchester council moves to seek WPA funds for sidewalk construction as repairs and new pavements are planned. The street committee approved a plan to restore disrepair and build where needed with the aim to submit the application before July 1.

The German American Bund Auxiliary says its charter was repealed by the Legislature and Camp Nordland at Andover New Jersey has been turned over to mortgagees. The group surrendered the charter and a deed of sale was filed. Governor Edison signed the repeal into law after Memorial Day raid by deputies led by Sheriff Quick on charges the camp was a nuisance.

Apples With No Care Or Seed Grown By California Woman

California housewife Libbie Wilcox grew a seedless, careless apple from a tree she planted ten years ago. The U S Department of Agriculture confirmed the rarity and will conduct experiments at a station in Maryland. Wilcox, 60, says the fruit is large red and one quarter larger than typical apples and she cannot identify the seed variety.
