U N Command and Congo army rush troops to Kivu as rebel Bafulero tribesmen advance toward Bukavu. About 200 rebels move north along the Buskavu road while 500 whites in Bukavu fear withdrawal of civilian staff.
Middletown town council set a minimum water hook-up fee of 75 dollars in regular session approving the amended water charge ordinance. The revised rules allow for additional charges if 75 dollars does not cover costs. the town previously billed actual labor and material costs. Also noted, new police officer William Nicewarner of Front Royal began duties as council ordered bill payments.
West Virginia commerce officials report at least five foreign companies showing interest in locating plants in the state. Henry Barbour said the prospects were raised during a recent Europe trade mission by nine state business and labor leaders. Industries were not named.

William K. Shewbridge II of Bethesda, an 18 year old Staunton Military Academy graduate, died after a nighttime altercation outside the Devonshire Grill in Washington. He and friend Richard Edwards were celebrating after graduation when a punch knocked Shewbridge to a street metal plate. He died at Providence Hospital at 6 10 a.m. Police noted no immediate details on others involved.
A 17 year old East German mechanic escaped to West Germany with his dog near HOF Bavaria. He commanded the dog to attack guards as they reached the barbed wire entanglements. The dog leaped two guards injuring one, then guided the youth to safety across the border.
In Dallas, Judge Joe B Brown scheduled a June 19 open court hearing to decide if Jack Ruby will stand a sanity trial. Ruby, 53, convicted of murder in Oswald shooting, will receive psychiatric treatment in his jail cell as doctors report he is mentally ill and experiencing low mood and regression. If health improves, a sanity trial would begin July 6.
