North Carolina capitalist and association chief organizer Hugh MacRae heads a convention stressing the importance of encouraging touring and growth on Black Bear Trail and related ventures. He underscores economic expansion through organized tours and regional development.
Delegates from Florida to Canada gathered in Winchester to back a 2000 mile trunk highway named the Black Bear Trail. Mayor Ward opened the session at Handley Library with plans to boost tourism and national highway popularity through coordinated promotions and city cooperation.
Governor Harry F. Byrd of Virginia asks President Coolidge for a Federal Trade Commission investigation into gasoline oil and kerosene pricing and recent industry mergers. He cites a 4 month 33 percent rise and a $6 million annual burden on Virginia residents plus a nationwide $500 million impact. Byrne also appeals to other governors to back the probe.

Walter I Cooper is appointed assistant postmaster after Harry Stouffer becomes postmaster. Stouffer held the role years. Cooper has 16 years with the local office and ties to mail order and registry. Civil Service announces open exam for clerk carrier. applications close June 9 and blanks are available at the Winchester post office.
Winchester banks observe Jefferson Davis birthday as a legal holiday in Virginia. Due notes due tomorrow may be paid on June 4. Banks will be open next Saturday June 5 despite Confederate Memorial Day, with normal hours and extended Saturday evening hours.

A man using the name C M Doyle claiming World War veteran was sentenced to 60 days in jail by Justice Weems after failing to pay hotel bills totaling 75 50. Doyle also possessed items identified by doctors as theirs and tampered with a church charity box. Police noted possible narcotics influence and a battle wound on his arm. Additional police court cases included fines for license issues parking violations and speeding.
A jeweler James Lombardo and Mrs Crystal Barrier were killed and Mrs Violet Bass fatally wounded when unidentified assailants shot them after leaving Derby Inn in Homewood Illinois. Miss Margaret Quintenz said a man in the car was a notorious character as police found a shotgun in shrubbery nearby.
Joseph S. Dorschel aged 45 died in a vat of boiling malt at the American Malt Company plant in Baltimore. He entered to inspect mixing machinery and was caught when others started the line. Firemen retrieved his body and co-worker Peter Scheidigger suffered serious burns while attempting rescue.
The American golf team holds a commanding lead of three matches to one after the first day of Walker Cup play in St Andrew Scotland.

Graduates Marguerite Rinker Mary Cunningham Lucille Williams and David Petrie received diplomas at the Stephens City High School exercises in the auditorium. Miss Bates won the American Legion Auxiliary medal for eighth grade excellence. Rev J Hoge Smith delivered the avocation and T Russell Cather gave the address. Diplomas were presented by Leslie D Kline. A school night program followed with performances by students and remarks from Miss Mary Kitchen and others.
In Georgetown Delaware June 2 James Mark Cawisle a 38 year old farmer shot and killed his wife Mary aged 1 and then killed himself Their bodies were found in the dining room by Jay Watson a boy on his way to school Neighbors cite jealousy as the motive Carlisle used a shotgun to kill his wife and then a revolver in his head The dining room showed a violent struggle Carlisle leaves four sons from a prior marriage three at work in a field and one in a nearby building The couple were said to have frequent quarrels recently with no clear reason given

The Potomac River Corporation of Delaware has filed injunction proceedings against the Harpers Ferry Paper Company to prevent disposal of property and to enforce an option involving James R. Gloyd of Cleveland. The case, heard in Charles Town by Judge Rodgers, centers on power and light supplies to Harpers Ferry and nearby towns amid disputed real estate and water power appraisals.
Three hundred general chairmen of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers met in ND Ohio on June 2 to consider a proposed wage increase after a membership referendum. A 12 member sub commission of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen also discussed raises. The target raise is about one dollar per day aligning with recent joint requests by other unions.
John S. Jenkins a Frederick county farmer died last evening at his home No 341 Fairview Avenue after a tuberculosis illness at age 59 He was born in the county and farmed at Armel and Kernstown later moving to Winchester He is survived by his widow Musetta Jenkins six daughters Edith Teets Irene Davis Virginia Clark Nellie Lola and Helen Jenkins one brother Albert Jenkins and two sisters Rebecca Newcome and Frances Jenkins Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 pm from the family residence by Rev Dr Murray D Mitchell with interment in Mount Hebron Cemetery Pallbearers will be drawn from the Golden Rule Bible Class.
