Sculptor Fashions Chalice To Promote World Peace
Charlottesville artist Hansen, a 69 year old Norwegian born sculptor, is creating a chalice centerpiece intended as a second Holy Grail to inspire world peace. The carved rose colored beryl gem, valued at about 100000 by a New York expert, forms the focal image of God with 200 facets that reflect light as the Deity’s face changes with each turn of the stone. The project includes a gold exterior and liner and scenes from Christ's life on the cup, with the Deity image appearing in the cup itself. The Smithsonian has expressed interest in acquiring the jewel through a donor.
