Most members back De Gaulle as the invasion of Sicily and Mussolini's resignation bring France closer to unity. The committee aims to resolve the fusion issue promptly as it plans another meeting.
Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden told Parliament that Britain approves General Eisenhower's plan to free Italian prisoners if Italy capitulates and releases Allied prisoners. Eden stressed the terms require unconditional surrender and do not guarantee full release of prisoners.
