U S Marines launched a second intrusion into the southern half of the DMZ between North and South Vietnam reaching mortar and artillery sites near Con Thien. The report notes a dogfight over North Vietnam with a MIG21 probably shot down and seven U S planes lost there.
Light rain fell this morning with scattered showers or thunderstorms forecast to persist throughout the day. A sprinkle or two is possible tonight and tomorrow. Temperatures are expected to run near normal over the next five days.
More than nine large spools of copper wire weighing about 500 pounds and a Miller welder were stolen from J. Schoeneman Inc in the Winchester Industrial Park likely Tuesday night. The loss delays the plant’s completion by weeks as Baker & Anderson Electrical Co and Sullivan Mechanical Contractors seek replacements. State police also report a theft at Willow Lawn supermarket with $80 in beer and cigarettes taken.
President Johnson appoints an 11 member Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders to study the origins of recent disorders and propose preventive measures. Local Black leaders and YMCA workers emphasize peaceful community action to curb anger and promote dignity.
Sherry Diane Ensogna of Country Club Terrace became one of eight finalists in the 13th World Posture and Physical Fitness Pageant for Miss World Posture in Montreal Canada. The winner is to be announced today. Contests score 70 percent on a straight spine and exercise performance. Ensogna is the first Virginian contestant in this year’s event.

Detroit on a tense night as racial violence lingers with five more incidents. Mayor Jerome P. Cavanagh escaped unharmed after his car was shot at during a West Side tour. Police and National Guard units faced gunfire as rioters burned and looted, with no injuries reported to the mayor.
Richmond AP reports a low pressure area in the Ohio Valley may push showers and thunderstorms eastward increasing precipitation chances mainly in the mountains and northern Virginia today.
