Two men are shot in a police clash after veterans are ejected from a house on Pennsylvania Avenue. Genera l Glassford is hit in the melee as thousands from other encampments march to the scene. Commander Waters tells police the men are out of his control and blames the radical wing of the Bonus Expeditionary Force.
Rioting broke out as police moved to evict veterans from a dismantled building on Pennsylvania avenue near the Capitol. Two veterans were shot, one in the neck and one in the side, during a clash that started when an officer fired from a stairwell. Police dispersed the crowd with bricks and bottles flying.
In Washington on July 28 thousands of veterans from encampments joined a clash with police after eviction from government property near lower Pennsylvania avenue. Brickbats flew as officers used night sticks. Pelham Glassford was struck by a brick but his badge was recovered. Police held the scene with revolvers drawn but fired none. The protestors were described as radical wing members of the Bonus Expeditionary Force by their commander in chief Walter Waters.
Mrs Roscoe Griffith phoned for help when her husband the veterinarian swallowed poison. Police found him calmly eating dinner despite his wife’s panic. He claimed no poison and declined help but was taken to a hospital where he died shortly after arriving.
Winchester Park Association kicks off a yard party festival inviting civic groups to attend daily. Proceeds may fund a larger wading pool or a public swimming pool while the band concert and fat man races draw crowds.
Clarke County Young Democratic Club after organizing its executive slate plans real work to mobilize votes for November. They endorsed the national Democratic ticket and will recruit volunteers countywide to ensure party turnout at the polls November 8. The Little Theatre of Winchester presents Noel Coward’s Hay Fever with a cast including Mrs. Virginia Vredenburgh Miss Ann Brooke Kern and Garland R. Quarles directing William D. Smith Jr. Tickets for the July 29 performance at Capitol Theatre are $1.50 and 25 cents. No seats reserved.
Paris reports that Paul Gorguloff, convicted of the murder of President Paul Doumer, was moved to the Sante prison death house awaiting execution by guillotine. He said he would prefer to be shot like a soldier. A 24 hour watch guards his cell as he contemplates appeals within three days.
Troop No. 1 and Troop No. 2 Boy Scouts will meet at Grace Lutheran Church Friday to plan the ninth annual Camp White Rock on the Capon River in West Virginia. Camp opens after the Girl Scouts encampment with about 25 Scouts, five counselors, and leaders Eugene B. Coober and Fred Stine directing.
A decree in Corporation Court by Judge Philip Williams grants William F. E. Shanholtz an absolute divorce from Viola C. Shanholtz after desertion for three years. Custody of their infant is awarded to William. Both parties cannot remarry for six months from the order date.

Secret Service and detectives hunt authors of Communist propaganda found in a Pontiac Michigan hotel. Officials blame the Communist party for a nationwide campaign to shake confidence in banks as runs threaten Chicago banks last month. William V Foster denied sponsoring the campaign or that GeorgeBowla a party member.
The eighty fourth annual session of the Virginia Valley Central Congregational Christian Conference will open at 10 a m August 10 at First Christian Church in Winchester. Officers include President Rev R L Williamson Vice President Rev B J Earp Secretary Rev A W Andes and Treasurer Samuel Earman. Delegates come from Frederick Shenandoah Rockingham Page and Greene counties and Timber Ridge and Timber Mountain in West Virginia. Visiting speakers include Dr L E Smith Dr W P Minton and Supt C D Johnston. Williamson to give the annual address. All invited to attend.
The last will and testament of Mrs. Rebecca Chamberlin, valuing an estate near 2500 dollars, is admitted to record. After debts and funeral costs, personal property is to be sold with specific bequests to relatives. proceeds split between two Crone sisters and two stepdaughters. The will, dated May 13, 1932, names attorney M. M. Lynch as executor with a 2500 dollar bond. witnesses include Margaret Kelchner and Bessie Copenhaver. Appraisers listed are Coleman Dunn, Hunter M. Stine, Charles R. McCann, Clark Hardisty, and Richard R. Boyce.
Virginia author Kate Langley Bosher died in Norfolk at age 67. Her notable works include Mary Carey and Miss Gibbie Gault, published in 1910 and 1911. She is survived by seven siblings. her husband Charles E Bosher predeceased her.
A Winchester meeting at City Hall Monday August 1 aims to establish a branch of the Young Democrats of America. John Galleher of Leesburg will speak, with local and state leaders expected to attend. The club seeks ages 18 to 45, dues of 1 dollar, and affiliation with the Virginia organization.
Colonel Leigh Austin Fuller retired United States Army Medical Corps former Winchester resident dies on a visit at Fort Ontario New York He was born November 9 1868 in Paterson New Jersey and served in the Cuban War the Philippines and under Pershing in Mexico He is survived by two sons Lieut L A Fuller Jr and Midshipman George S Fuller and a daughter Mrs Ralph Nicholl Burial will be in Arlington with full military honors.
