Terrorists struck Saigon for the second time in a week and blew up the city’s largest Chinese newspaper. Police said four young Viet Cong set off a 60 pound plastic bomb in the press room of A Chau Van.
A military court in Saigon sentenced Truong Dinh Dzu, runner up in last fall’s presidential election, to five years hard labor for advocating peace talks with the Viet Cong. The trial lasted 1 hour 25 minutes and followed recent political prosecutions amid rising Viet Cong violence.
Winchester and Berryville post offices will offer no window service on Saturdays except 8 am to 10 am for general delivery and package delivery to patrons with notices. No financial transactions will occur. Winchester Postmaster Joseph Haines stated.
A 17 year old Francis P. Koerner died from multiple stab wounds after a fight with other teens in Fairfax County. His brother Paul, 19, and David A. Ricken, 19, were injured when a group of teens allegedly threw a can at a passing car. Police seek the alleged stabbers.
Three recipients stand with donors from the Shawnee Kennel Club as profits from this year’s dog show are given to four Winchester area organizations. Mrs. Charles A. Getzendanner distributes funds. Mrs. J. T. Clevenger and James E. Barnett assist. See Page 3 for story.

In Muskegon Michigan parents back both sons amid one brother Lt Duncan Swenson serving in Vietnam and the other Richard Swenson opposing the war and facing induction refusal. Mrs Swenson describes the war as depraved and obscene while Richard faces uncertain draft status and possible consequences. The Chronicle reported Richard’s anti draft stance and Ann Arbor group involvement as he awaits action from local authorities and Fort Wayne induction records.

Winchester will begin shared operation of the Frederick County dump on August 1 under an agreement effective through June 30, 1969. Committees plan to issue bid specifications for operation and maintenance and call for bids by month’s end. Attending the Wednesday meeting were City Manager Wendell Seldon, City Engineer Lanny Branner, Shawnee District Supervisor Donald Baughman, and Stonewall District Supervisor Thomas Brumback.

Clarence Kilby 59 of Stephens City faces murder charges in the fatal shooting of his 17 year old son William Kilby after a family argument. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. at the Kilby home in Frederick County. William Kilby, a James Wood High student, died from a single .25 caliber bullet wound. Funeral services are planned for 9 a.m. tomorrow at Jones Funeral Home with burial in Cole Cemetery Whitetop Virginia. Survivors include his parents and two sisters.
Sporadic racial violence erupted in five U S areas from Erie Pennsylvania to Seattle Washington with major targets in Cleveland and Chicago. Police reported normal conditions in Cleveland while Mayor Stokes imposed a dusk to dawn curfew in Negro slums with National Guardsmen enforcing.
Delegates from Winchester and Frederick County depart for the State Democratic Convention to convene this weekend in Salem. County Chair Edwin Miller and City Chairman J Frederick Larrick lead their districts with a slate including U S Senator Harry F Byrd Jr and numerous local officials and alternates.
New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller says if elected president he would push for an international new world order based on East West cooperation. He would seek dialogue with Red China and Soviet Union to end the arms race and prevent small wars from expanding. Rockefeller notes the need for peace despite communism’s hostility and says cooperation among nations is essential.Sen. Eugene McCarthy forecasts reduced chances for talks with North Vietnamese diplomats in Paris after Honolulu communique. He argues the U S must press concessions before engaging, while addressing a large Boston crowd at Fenway Park.
