The Citizens' Band has new uniforms from Klein Brothers and will wear them for the first time at tomorrow night’s concert in front of the Court House. A cash deal required members to cover costs with a bank note, and a public collection will be taken as an experiment to help cover expenses.
A stolen car driven by a thief during a county carnival night crashed into the tall iron fence of Mount Hebron Cemetery after wandering the streets. The vehicle was damaged and abandoned. the thief fled but the car was recovered and identified by P. D. Pangle at police headquarters.
Martin J. Durkin known as Beau Brummell gunman was assaulted again by fellow prisoners in Chicago jail after a prior beating. Guards intervened. Sam Paskell and Edward Fogel were placed in solitary for 72 hours. Durkin, who faces a new trial motion, was moved to a distant cell after the incident.
Robert P. Lincoln, sole surviving son of President Abraham Lincoln, was found dead in his bed at his Manchester Vermont summer residence. He had served as secretary of war, minister to Great Britain, and headed the Pullman Company, and was nearly 83.
Mrs. Richard E. Byrd reported a Chandler automobile missing in the early hours from her Amherst Street garden. Police were notified and teletypes sent to nearby towns to recover the sedan bearing Virginia license No 27 635 and engine number 1127772.
Funeral services for Miss Lillie B Finfrock who died last Monday were held at her Welltown home on Thursday at 3 oclock. The Rev Mr Russell of Brucetown's Southern Methodist Church officiated with Rev Mr Waters assisting. Pallbearers included Daniel Metz Mortimer Ebert Alfred Wright John Ebert W A McKown W S Hietz Harry Ebert T B Sencindiver Jonas Chamberlain. Interment followed in Mount Hebron cemetery.
Shawnee Tribe No. 2 Improved Order of Red Men conducts a pow wow at Cook's Park near Millwood Road Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Expected to have tribesmen in full regalia with painted faces. Dancing boating fishing and other national amusements announced by the committee.

Jacob A. Bean, a farmer in the southeast county, was found guilty of using the Front Royal road under construction seven times in one day. He argued the barricade was open for machinery and he was delivering supper to threshing crews. He was fined 10.25 dollars, with costs, and appeals to the Circuit Court were filed for the October term.
Rev Dr Simon P Long will not reach Winchester until Wednesday night so Grace Lutheran Church moved the service to Thursday evening at 8 o'clock. Long, author and lecturer, speaks at the Lutheran reunion at Shenandoah Caverns Thursday and will return for the service. He is father of Mrs R F Cline of this city.
Baltimore July 26 The condemned bandit Whittemore seeks clemency as Edgar Allan Poe argues for commutation to life. Governor Ritchie will hear the plea at 2 p.m. and decide with finality. Whittemore faces execution scheduled for Friday August 13 with witnesses arranged for 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

Governor Byrd plans to return to Winchester after his 1930 term to run two newspapers and tend apple orchards. He is viewed as a lifelong political leader and unlikely to retire at age 42, with Virginia avoiding two terms and Senate seats held by Glass and Swanson influencing Byrd's path.
Thirty deaths were reported in Buffalo and nearby from wood alcohol likely sold at makeshift drink stands. Two dealers were arrested, one on a homicide charge, as Acting Chief John Marion planned at least five murder indictments. Richmond Times Dispatch reports attorney Gray Williams of Winchester Va is expected to be elected president of the Virginia Bar Association at Hot Springs August 4 to 6. Williams would succeed John Randolph Tucker, having been nominated last year but defeated. He is a leading Virginia lawyer and a member of a state constitutional amendment commission. The Hot Springs meeting will feature speakers John W. Davis, Sen Thomas F Bayard, and Major General Robert Lee Bullard.
The interior department in Mexico City orders inquiry into a pastoral letter signed by archbishops and bishops. The letter announces that starting Sunday no priest will officiate Catholic ceremonies nationwide as the government pursues religious institution regulations. If a constitutional violation is found, the attorney general may cite signers or order their arrest.
A Caribbean system became a hurricane sweeping the lower Florida east coast with 40 to 50 mph winds. Vessels anchored offshore and at Biscayne Bay faced heavy seas while ships reported higher gusts near Porto Rico. A 75 foot yacht Cinnibar, its crew of five and ten more aboard, sailed to Bimini before returning expected later.
Six people die and about 60 are injured when a foot bridge over Coal river at Whiteville collapses during a free carnival act. The span gave way under 125 spectators. 35 were hospitalized, others treated on site. Most victims are women and children.

Cumberland Md July 26 The Horseshoe Trail Association votes to extend the trail from Williamsport Pa to Winchester Va linking Cumberland Bedford and other cities. A formal opening celebration is planned with a caravan of automobiles led by a Shriners calliope and welcomes at City Hall Plaza.

Members of Company I and Headquarters Company of the 116th Virginia National Guard Twenty-ninth Division returned last evening by a Baltimore and Ohio special train. Capt. George H. Grimm led Company I and Lieut. Lawrence Hollis commanded Headquarters Company after two weeks of training at the state rifle range in Virginia Beach. The encampment featured drills under regular army officers and left the Winchester soldiers with tan coats and new skills. Division commander Major General Stephan, who reviewed the brigade at Virginia Beach, hinted at possible mobilization of the Twenty-ninth in the near future.
Funeral services for Mrs. Martha W. Bishop will be held at 3 oclock tomorrow from the Daniel Wright farm home of her daughter Mrs Frank Kiger near Grimes. Interment will be at the Hopewell burying ground.
