Fairfax County Potomac water intake plan approved
Federal approval of Fairfax County's river water intake was expected today after the Water Authority endorsed an agreement on maintaining environmental flows during dry periods. The Army Corps of Engineers sign-off would permit an intake of up to 200 million gallons daily, with initial pumping at 50 million gallons in 1980 and full capacity by 2010.
