Virginia peach production is forecast at about 1 650 000 bushels this year down from 2 640 000 in 1946 with most fruit to Eastern markets from July 25 to Sept 1 and a peak around August 23 26. Local grower Roy A Cather notes Winchester crop will be about 50 percent of normal but size and quality will be high. Early Red Bird peaches sell near 2 per crate with package goods around 2 75.
