Virginia Republicans Benefit From W. Clement Stone Donations
A Stone list shows Chicago financier W. Clement Stone gave $12,000 to Gov. Linwood Holton in 1969 and $500 to Del. Ray L. Garland in 1970. Garland welcomed the gift amid White House hostility to his race, while Obenshain noted the $12,000 amount was modest in a high spending climate. Stone said Watergate spurred campaign finance reform and may halt future contributions. The shelf line note follows.
