Washington July 13 A resolution proposing a new constitutional amendment by Senator Carter Glass Virginia would allow states to decide liquor with the saloon still unconstitutional and would bar liquor transport into dry states The measure must be ratified by state conventions within seven years or die Glass urged immediate action but faced Senate opposition from Senator Norris The plan aligns with Democratic platform but faced wets opposition in Virginia and elsewhere and would permit liquor sales in hotels and restaurants unless blocked by state law Continued on page three

Youth Killed Eight Injured In Martinsburg Crash
Conrad Woodward 21 of Charles Town died from head injuries after an automobile driven by him crashed into a slower car driven by Richard Haas three miles east of Martinsburg. Eight others were injured and treated at homes or local hospitals. witnesses said Woodward traveled at high speed and swerved to avoid a signal, causing a head on collision. Funeral services for Woodward will be held Friday at 4 p.m. from the family home with burial at Edgehill Cemetery.

Two bandit suspects released after Cross Junction arrest
Two men arrested near Cross Junction in Frederick County on suspicion of bandit activity were released after proving they had no involvement. One Italian-born man and a West Virginia teacher were detained by Police Officer Francis Funk and Deputy Sheriff Robert DeHaven, then cleared. License plates linked to the car were traced to North Carolina thefts, and the Studebaker used by the bandits had been reported stolen last January and driven about 9,000 miles.

Death of Little Bobbie McIlwee Follows Prolonged Illness
The eight year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert McIlwee of Reynolds Store died Tuesday night at Memorial Hospital after a long bout with ostenomilitis a rare disease. A service at the uncle’s home on Amherst street extended will precede a 3 p.m. service at the Gainesboro Southern Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Wagner officiating. Interment will be in the Gainesboro graveyard. Pallbearers are schoolmates George Buzzerd Joshua Place Lloyd Stotler and Denny Brown. The parents and one infant sister Betty survive. The father donated blood through two major operations and transfusions without saving the child. The death grieves both families and friends.
