A Friday blaze on the 18th floor of the Squibb building at West 57th Street left 400 workers trapped for 90 minutes. Upper floors filled with smoke, 50 remained on the floor of the fire. Workers flooded onto the roof and used shirts and ventilators to limit smoke. Eight firemen among 13 hospitalized for smoke inhalation.
In Bonn Kissinger reports some progress after a three hour meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Rabin on an interim Sinai accord. Rabin says obstacles remain and Israel will consult its cabinet before replying next week.

Major refiners Amstar Corp National Sugar Refining Co and SuCrest Corp again boosted wholesale sugar prices. Five pound bags rose to 1.55 and ten pound to 3.15 at Amstar while SuCrest listed 1.54 and 3.08. Industry says raw sugar costs driven by beet crop damage in the Midwest.
