A wounded bandit and four at large as three officers narrowly escaped harm. the safe contained about 400 dollars. Maryland Virginia and West Virginia officers intensify the manhunt.
Officer Jack Bowers recounts a gunfight with five gangsters during a Garber Manufacturing burglary on South Braddock street. He faced 45 calibre fire, stayed on the street with a .38 revolver while Tom Boyd and Francis Funk moved to cover, and narrowly escaped when a gangster fired and missed.

Residents hope Winchester will receive natural gas after Staunton and Waynesboro plants were purchased by Virginia Gas Distribution Corpora tion, a Columbia Gas and Electric subsidiary. The Staunton price for natural gas will be lower than the artificial gas rate of 2.25 dollars per thousand feet, with discounts for larger use and prompt payment. The pipeline already serves Lexington Clifton Forge Covington and extends toward Rockville Maryland and Washington. Citizens expect price reductions as gas lines spread to more towns and the national capital region.
