New Tax Laws Fail to Cut Public Burden
Treasury figures for fiscal year 1925 show the new tax law reduced receipts by just over half of the intended 400 million. Total tax receipts were 2,584,010,847 compared with 2,796,179,253 in 1924. A six month 1925 loss of 213,168,409 under lower rates suggests the law will not meet its target. Senator Watson of Indiana favors cutting at least 200,000,000 from the tax list in next Congress.
