A Clarke county coroner ruled the death of Sherman Jackson a accidental death after his body was found beside the Norfolk and Western tracks between Boyce and Briggs. Jackson who was 20 and Black had worked as a butler for Mrs. Kenneth N. Gilpin and later for her mother Mrs. L. D. Tyson of Knoxville.

Two Nabbed With Liquor Transporting Hooch in Winchester

Acting on a tip Officers Bowers and Williams nabbed William Johnson 33 and Ashley Corbin 28 last night around 8 30 on Pughtown Pike as they tried to bring liquor into Winchester. Three gallons of liquor were found in Corbin s Chevrolet coupe. Johnson and Corbin were arrested on transportation and illegal possession of liquor and are held at the city jail awaiting trial.

Kidnapping attempt ends in ransom note by teen accomplice

A 17 year old Lavonia Georgia boy aided in abducting banker John K Ottley 65 in Atlanta area. Ottley blindfolded and taken to a woods near Suwanee written note to his wife asking 40000 dollars ransom. The youth claimed the plot was engineered by an older man to gain gratitude. The child released Ottley after discussion of the gravity of the situation.

William G. Hardy, former vice president and cashier of Shenandoah Valley National Bank in Winchester, Va., is indicted for misapplying about 7971.52. B Beverley Wright, Hardy’s son in law, is charged with obtaining just over 13000 dollars aiding Hardy in the wrongful use of bank funds. The bank says the funds were taken more than two years ago and Hardy resigned after the case was opened. No other officer or director is implicated.
