Major Fire at Touro Infirmary Threatened Citywide Disaster
Fire Chief William McCrossen credited swift fire department action for preventing a five alarm blaze at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans from becoming catastrophic. About 125 firefighters contained smoke and water damage to the top three hospital floors while 100 patients were evacuated. No patients on the 10th floor were present when the lounge fire started. the cause was under investigation.
