Continuance Of Farm Prosperity Predicted For 1948
The commerce department said farm prosperity should continue at least until well into 1948 with caution that old farm problems could reappear afterward. War years brought a 200 percent rise in net income and a $10 billion backlog of savings, while farm population fell by 5 million from 1940 to 1945 to 25 million. Farm land prices rose 69 percent since 1939 though veterans show little sign of returning to farming. whether savings fuel consumption or land speculation will shape the postal economy remains unsure.
