Tests at the city pumping station show a reduction of about one third in water pumped and in coal and electricity usage. From Jan 1 to 27 the daily average pumped was about 1,000,000 gallons. Leaks were found and stopped and some consumption waste due to hydrants left on overnight.

Her remains were moved to West Water street to await funeral services at 3 30 tomorrow at Christ Church with Rev W D Smith officiating. Councilmen May Exchange Places by Resignations
Mr John H Snyder a prominent plumber and president of the Common Council has bought the North avenue residence last occupied by Thomas M Barr and will move in soon. The transfer from the first to the second ward would require his resignation and a vacant seat exists in the second ward from W Alexander Baker’s move. It is suggested Baker be elected to Snyder’s first ward seat and Snyder to Baker’s second ward seat. Snyder has served the first ward about fifteen years and is the council’s oldest continuous member.

Navy recruiting party succeeds in Winchester
The U S Navy recruiting team, based at the Winchester post office, left for Frederick after six applications were filed. Four were accepted two outright Samuel E Sampsell and Sidney P Pierce. Leslie McC Snapp and Henry C Boyles were temporarily rejected due to age but later approved with paternal release papers. Ralph C Gain and Charles E Kibby were rejected for failing physicals. The visit boosted navy sentiment and advertised career opportunities.

Local Horses Win in Cuba Rally at Havana Races
Hon. Kenneth N. Gilpin of Clarke and Warren counties travels to Havana to attend the racing meet. His horse Montcalm is entered in today’s program and has won multiple races. Gilpin plans to stay until late February as racing continues. Mr. Atkinson and wife, residents of Clarke County, also in Havana with several horses among the winners, will return home next week.

In Richmond Virginia Judge D C Richardson instructed a jury to determine if defendants Alling Giannini and August Dinelli had more than one gallon of ardent spirits in their home since November 1 The case involved barrels of wine and whiskey and many bottles of imported wine seized December 26 The jury acquitted after a trial on a truthing prepared by the court Prohibition Commissioner Peters criticized the verdict and the commonwealths attorney was denied the option to try on fewer counts The proceeding connects to wider disputes since the prohibition law took effect
