Severe weather including huge road drifts and gale winds forced the county to close all schools for the rest of the week. Superintendent Leslie D. Kline directed closures and planned reopens Monday if conditions permit. Some buses operated only partially and students were unable to reach stops, with Middletown closing at noon and Stephens City closing today.
Judge John Barton Payne 80 head of the American Red Cross died in George Washington Hospital after influenza and an appendectomy followed by pneumonia. He had directed relief operations during floods in Tennessee and Mississippi and previously served in Wilson’s cabinet. A nine room residence at 401 West Kent Street corner of Kent and Baker Streets will be sold at a trustee’s sale in front of the Court House at noon on Saturday in 1935. This notice assigns the property to creditors and specifies the sale time and location.

Her husband 51 and son 18 drowned early Monday while she and another son fled the rising water and survived. She described a boat trip to move livestock and the moment the barn cried out.
David Olson a 20 year old from Brooklyn New York was jailed in Baltimore for 15 days on a vagrancy charge to wait out cold weather. He asked for a bed to thaw out and pleaded for a longer sentence but accepted the magistrate’s 15 day term.
Garland R. Quarles, superintendent of the Handley Schools, announced that all Handley system schools will be open tomorrow. Schools closed at noon today due to poor attendance to inform parents for planning.
