City police chiefs and postmasters in Frederick County are designated as chief registrars to register German alien enemies under the November 16 1917 proclamation. Registration runs Feb 4–9 1918 daily 6 am to 8 pm at police headquarters with notices to be published in local papers.

Pat Stephenson Selected for Army Officers Training Camp
Corporal Henry Neville Stephenson of Winchester's old Company I, Second Virginia Regiment, has been chosen from his company to train for a commission at Camp Anniston Alabama. Twenty-two company members were examined, with Stephenson one of three selected. training starts soon for three months. He is known locally as Pat and is the son of Mrs Henry Stephenson.

Mrs. Virginia Athey Dies After Paralysis At 43rd Anniversary
Mrs. Virginia Evalina Athey wife of Baltimore and Ohio Railroad watchman Joseph Athey died at 8 35 last evening at her home 317 North Kent street after two weeks of paralysis. Survived by husband three sons Clinton Herbert Athey Oscar Athey and Ray Riser daughter Mrs. Ray R Riser and brother Oliver Lowery. She was 68 years old and active in the Presbyterian Church. Her death coincided with the forty third anniversary of their marriage.

Teddy Miller III Joins Aviation Section Signal Corps
Theodore Miller known as Teddy Miller from West Piccadilly street has joined the aviation section of the signal corps and is sent to training camps in Kentucky before heading to Texas. At 18 he left home secretly after attempting to join the navy, and later wrote that he is in the aviation service and likes the position. He previously worked at the woolen mill and is among many young men of his age entering military service.

Following a January 22 1918 conference between wholesale and retail grocers and meat market owners it was decided that from January 28 onward every wholesale and retail grocer and every meat market in Winchester would be closed all day on Mondays through March 25 to balance business and aid the federal fuel law.

Peaches Killed by Hard Freeze in Chambersburg Area
Dr. S. W. Fletcher of State College and Aaron Newcomer surveyed orchards near Routerville and found a large share of peach buds killed by the recent extreme cold. Wildcat Trapped by Rail Accident Near Crossing
A wildcat was found injured near a rail crossing after a moving engine dragged it, catching by the head and tearing at its tongue. Workers investigated the scene noting the animal appeared to reach water nearby before crossing the rails, and a Red Cross concern was mentioned.
