British Plane In Distress Near Bermuda Search Underway
Pan American and Mackay Radio reported receiving an S O S from the British flying boat Cavalier en route from Port Washington to Bermuda. The vessel, a Short Brothers four engine model with 20 passengers and six crew, vanished after the distress call as Bermuda Clipper and a tanker Esso Bowtown raced to the scene. Captain M R Alderson commanded the flight with Neil Richardson as first officer and navigator. The Cavalier, operating since the summer, had left Port Washington at 10 43 am for a 780 mile five hour trip.
