Col J F Leedy a longtime Virginia National Guard officer and former state senator dies at his Luray home after pneumonia and complications. He served as mayor of Basic, represented Page and Rappahannock in the House, then the Senate, helped draft defense plans, and supported road bonds while opposing prohibition. Survived by widow Emma Keister and six children. Burial with military honors at Green Hill Cemetery.

Washington January 14 An amid new soldier bonus proposal in the Senate sponsored by Senator Bursum Republican New Mexico would restore family and insurance allotments deducted from pay and a portion of liberty bonds with service. It would add twenty dollars monthly for each month of service. The bill estimates a treasury cost of 126 million dollars annually for four years and 60 million dollars annually for the next sixteen years.
