A New Year’s Eve shift at Winchester Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Room runs quietly as staff treat and release most patients. Infants with coughs and fevers, asthmatics, and minor injuries pass through while two accident victims and a hemorrhaging patient require admission. Dr. James A. Miller oversees the program, with shifts arranged among four doctors. in November 1971 one doctor left, leaving three remaining.
