In Beirut at least 100 killed and 173 wounded in 24 hours as Palestinian guerrillas clash with Christian militiamen around two refugee camps. Fighting spreads to downtown banks as reinforcements pour into the hotel district.
A 12 passenger special education school van slid on icy rural roads north of Beecher rolled down an embankment and overturned injuring 12 to 20 students. About 20 children were treated at St James Hospital Chicago Heights with some serious injuries. The driver was Richard Baker of Frankfort. Details on the school involved were not released.
The CIA lent bugging and antibugging equipment to local police and federal agencies, sometimes with no return or recovery effort. Documents released after FOIA review show loans to police until 1973 and consultations on what gear to buy, with recipients including Transportation, State, NSA, Secret Service, and others.
