Judge Simpson Keeps Blue Law Cases On Track In Winchester
Three defendants facing Sunday Blue Law violations had hearings pushed to February fifth in Winchester General District Court. Ray A. Murphy and Ellen Murphy of 433 Royal Ave along with owner Thomas G. Scully of 223 Amherst St were charged for December first infractions at Berryville Laundercenter and Martin's Magic Wash. Scully asked for a change of judge citing past partnership with the judge. new motions are due within 10 days with responses due 10 days after that. The Jan 31 hearing was set at 10 a.m. with Judge Rice as substitute.

Raymond C. Sandy won a fourth consecutive term as chairman of the Frederick County Board of Supervisors by a 3-1 vote with Dennis Cole dissenting. J. Robert Russell was unanimously chosen as vice chairman, continuing his three year tenure. Sandy represents the Opequon District and Russell the Gainesboro District. Sandy had earlier stated he would not seek county office in the upcoming general elections, and Russell is expected to leave the board due to health concerns.
