Frederick police arrested Albert Butler 45 of 337 South Market Street for stealing three autos. He was wanted in Winchester for two car thefts and was found driving another old model in Frederick. Butler previously served two years in a federal penitentiary after a 1937 theft case.
BERLIN Jan. 6 William Warnock Ireland's charge d affaires visited the foreign office to present his government's views on alleged German planes flying over Irish territory. The Irish department of external affairs formally blamed the Nazis for bombing three neutral Irish areas in the past week.
State Department monitors Falangist activities in the American republics amid evidence of Spain aiding Axis propaganda in the Western Hemisphere. Officials fear collaboration could widen German and Italian influence.
Admiral William D. Leahy, newly appointed United States ambassador to France, started work at the chancellery after arriving through a heavy snowstorm. The Supreme Court held the NLRB may require Heinz to sign a written contract with a labor organization if an agreement on employment conditions is reached. The decision, delivered by Justice Stone, rejects dissent and clarifies that state law governs cases unless federal constitution or acts of Congress apply. The ruling also requires courts to apply updated state law when changes occur.
The Shenandoah Valley National Bank marks its 75th anniversary with an exhibit featuring a $32,500 display of cash including a $10,000 note and hundreds of historical papers. An apple slicer from the Star front page resurfaces with a silver eight-slice device found among Mrs Tyler's effects. Cars were stiff to start as temperatures fell to 18 overnight.
