Dr Samuel Barton of Winchester died yesterday after an operation in Virginia. His body will be brought to Winchester for funeral services at Christ Protestant Church with Rev Robt Nelson officiating. Burial in Mount Hebron. Survived by two daughters Helen and Barton, a sister Miss Cary Barton, and a brother Dr Frederick Barton. Renowned mathematician and educator previously at Emory Henry Sewanee and University of the South.
Herman See custodian of the Commercial and Savings Bank underwent a painful operation last Saturday to remove abscesses behind the left ear. He was moved home to South Main Street yesterday and remains under a physician's care. See, a World War I veteran with Company I of the 116th Infantry under Captain R. Y. Conrad, is reported improved though still in pain.
Carter Cooper of the western county was arrested on a warrant by Isaiah Roe commissioner of the revenue on forging his name to a 22.00 check cashed at C. E. Huntsberry's store after a purchase. Merchants identified him as passing other forged checks including 27 and 2260 amounts. He allegedly forged the name Madison Nt. Rosenberger and denied the charges, claiming mistaken identity. He faces police court before Justice Frazier.
Mrs A M Baker, of South Washington street, was removed to Memorial Hospital yesterday for proper medical treatment after being in poor health at her home. The report notes she had been quite ill.

Bennett Russell a Clarke county Virginia native and former Winchester merchant died in Williamsport Maryland at age seventy after a long stomach cancer illness. The funeral is set for Friday at 10 am in Williamsport with interment in Green Hill Cemetery Berryville. He leaves a first wife Bettie Wyndham five children and an adopted son plus two brothers and a second wife Martha Boxwell. He once ran a Winchester store and was tollgate keeper at the Williamsport bridge over the Potomac.

Friends in Winchester report the death of Eugene Stump yesterday at his sister Mrs Helen Crumline s home in Ashville Pennsylvania He was about 60 and unmarried Surviving are his sister and a brother Robert Stump of Baltimore County Md The late Mr Stump helped run Winchester s first telephone company started around 1855 with Western Union Telegraph Co in one room on East Piccadilly Street near the site of the Commercial and Savings Bank building.

Margaret Kelly, a middle aged woman from Bloomery, West Virginia, died after events at her sister-in-law Isaac Kelly's home Sunday night. The coroner's inquest concluded yesterday with a graveyard funeral and burial at Pres graveyard. A brother from Sir John's Rum survives her along with other kin.
