Dr. Christian Barnard and a team at Groote Schuur Hospital completed a five hour heart transplant replacing a 58 year old dentist's damaged heart with that of a man who died from a brain hemorrhage. The hospital labeled the operation a success and noted the patient was in satisfactory condition.

Pfc. John Franklin Morrison Jr. 22 of 34 Jackson Ave. was killed in Vietnam on December 30. He served with the First Infantry Division Co.
