Geo L Brawner Passes Away After Long Ill Health
George L Brawner longtime Winchester resident and musician died after a lengthy illness. He lived at 132 Amherst Street with Mrs. John C Cather and had recently been hospitalized. The 1934 total of 176 marriage licenses issued by Clerk C. C. Brannon dropped from 191 in 1933 as many couples sought city minister weddings. Most couples were county residents. some crossed the West Virginia line or came from Washington, D. C., Marion and Pittsburgh. The year showed uneven monthly distribution, with November at 14 and March only 3. three licenses went to girls aged 15, and one such union involved the year’s oldest groom, aged 57, who has since died.
