Man and wife badly injured when auto struck by train
In Martinsburg area near Ridgeway West Virginia a Ford sedan carrying James E McCormick and his wife and a third occupant was hit by a southbound Pennsylvania Railroad extra freight train at a crossing. Mr McCormick suffered a compound left ankle fracture and severe cuts while Mrs McCormick had a compound jaw fracture a broken ankle and serious injuries. Both were taken to Memorial Hospital Winchester for treatment and are expected to recover after several days. No witnesses reported seeing the approach. the car was demolished.

Clarence Morris 23 is believed dying at Harrisonburg hospital from injuries after his car struck a northbound Norfolk and Western freight train at Elkton crossing 18 miles east of Harrisonburg Sunday afternoon. Morris was on the rear seat. Woodward driver oncoming head-on into the train. Bystanders pulled Woodward and a front-seat woman from the car. they had minor injuries. About thirty freight cars had passed when Woodward reportedly lost control. He is described as an inexperienced driver who bought the car last Thursday.
