Hundreds Wounded In Attacks In Saigon Offensive
In Saigon and across the country the Viet Cong offensive entered a third day with about 200 U S troops killed and several hundred wounded. Allied spokesmen put enemy deaths at more than 2 500, while 340 government troops were killed and 1 063 wounded. At least 90 civilians died and nearly 400 were wounded as attacks spread to 150 towns. Twenty eight Marines were killed near the DMZ as fighting spread north. The U S 25th Infantry Division repulsed a heavy assault near the Cambodian border, killing 78 North Vietnamese. Mortar and artillery strikes continued, though reportedly less intense than the prior night.
