All City Firms Battle Destructive Night Fire

Fire destroyed part of the C J Brumback and Sons Building at 301 N Cameron St with damage estimated between 75 000 and 100 000. Police found evidence of attempted burglary and a tampered safe after a possible tear gas device. Fire started before 11 45 p m on the first floor and spread to two offices and the stairway. Fire crews led by Sarah Zane arrived, noting flames from the ground floor window and the blaze moving through the brick building.

Fire destroys Brumback stock office with gas explosion

Routine patrol spotted smoke from the building as firemen faced low water pressure. They hooked hoses to pumps for more pressure. Brumback praised responders for a remarkable job and noted extensive water and smoke damage to lawn mower cartons and tractors. The gas bomb incident and a clock stopped at 11 45 p.m. were reported.
